Team Broken Earth
This project began as part of the immediate relief work in the days after the 2010 Haiti earthquake that killed 200,000. But it has wonderfully evolved into “a sustained medical relief effort in Haiti to help rebuild and reinforce the healthcare system in one of the poorest countries in the western world.” From its origins in St. John’s Newfoundland, the team has grown to over 8 different teams from across Canada, totaling over 200 volunteers.
Teams include surgeons, anesthesiologists, physicians, nurses and physiotherapists. Visits are for an intense week of clinical work and teaching based at the Hospital Bernard Mevs, Port-au-Prince.
