WHO Emerg and Essential Surgical Care
Visit the WHO Global Initiative for Emergency and Essential Surgical Care (EESC) website.
The WHO has been recently moved somewhat away from historical preoccupation with infectious disease and public health initiatives to affirm the fundamental importance of surgical care in developing countries. Read for example: “Surgery and Global Health: A View from Beyond the OR” (World J Surg (2008) 32:533–536) sited by WHO EESC program. For another perspective read: Surgery as a Global health issue
One component of WHO promotion of surgical care is the provision of subsidized and free surgical publications, such as the comprehensive how-to-manage manual of surgery: “Surgical Care in the District Hospital” which will be of interest to readers not familiar with it.
